Indore: A man broke into a garment shop barely 300 metres away from police station twice in one night and escaped with Rs 92,000 cash and a laptop, in Ratlam. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the shop.
The theft took place at Umbrella Kids Garments. Shop owner Hatim Qutubuddin Pakawala said that the incident came to light on Friday morning when his younger brother Hussain reached the store around 10.30 am and found the shutter wide open.
Thinking that an employee might have opened the shop early, the family contacted the staff member who usually arrives first, only to learn that he had not yet reached the premises. A check inside revealed that cash kept in the drawer and a box was missing.
According to the complainant, Rs 65,000 kept aside for payment to a trader had been stolen from a purse inside the counter. In total, the man fled with Rs 92,000 in cash during the first break-in.
CCTV footage revealed that the man first entered the shop at 3.30 am and spent nearly eight minutes inside before leaving with the cash. He returned to the shop at 4.45 am and used his mobile phone torchlight to steal a laptop, charger and scanner machine collectively valued at around Rs 45,000 in just five minutes.
Station Road police station in-charge Jitendra Singh Jadaun said that teams were scanning CCTV footage and efforts were underway to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.
