‘Insulted’ MP fishermen welfare board chairman leaves stage in anger

Indore: MP fishermen welfare board chairman Sitaram Batham ‘boycotted’ the programme that was organized to mark completion of three years of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) as he alleged being ignored and not being received due respect by the hosts.Batham, who came down from the stage in anger for allegedly not being given a floral welcome as offered to other guests, was somehow persuaded by senior officials to join the programme. While talking to media, Batham expressed his displeasure by saying that it's the third time when he was not given the due respect, which according to him is a disrespect of fishermen community he belongs to. He also registered his protest over the water resource minister Tulsiram Silawat allegedly addressing him as ‘baccha’ (kid). Following the incident, Silawat sought apology from the ministers sitting on the stage. Without naming Batham, he said that if youngsters commit any mistake, elders (Batham and other guests) should forgive them. “Nobody was angry. They came, sat and participated in the entire programme,” Rupala told media persons over the incident. tnn

HIMS dean transferred following allegations

Dr. Pradeep Kumar MV, a professor at the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, has been appointed as the new director of the Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), replacing Dr. Uday Mulagund. Dr. Mulagund's appointment has faced objections from activists who allege that he is not eligible for the post. The state government has initiated action against Dr. Mulagund based on a report submitted by the Deputy Commissioner of Haveri, which highlighted lapses in the recruitment process at HIMS. Kids of fishermen to be trained in sailing

The Royal Madras Yacht Club (RMYC) plans to train youngsters from the fishing community in sailing, aiming to help them win medals and secure jobs in the armed services. The club will submit a proposal to the sports minister to train 15 children from Chennai and coastal towns. The training will last for 18 months, and if the children win at the national level, they will have the opportunity to join the Indian Navy. Efforts are also being made to obtain clearance for the Sailing Academy in Chennai and the Tamil Nadu Olympic Water Sports Academy.
