Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has tackled around 1,250 metric tonnes of waste that had piled up at Depalpur dumpsite for half-a-decade under ‘Swachh Shehar Jodi' initiative.
"Over 500 ragpickers from IMC were deployed to assist in meticulous sorting. Depalpur provided the heavy lifting with earth movers and dumper. Around 4.5 tonnes of recyclables (plastic, metal, and glass) were sold to authorised recyclers, while nearly 60 tonnes of refuse derived fuel were sent to Indore's NEPRA plant for co-processing in cement factories," IMC commissioner Kshitij Singhal told TOI.
Local representatives and officials gathered at the reclaimed site and planted approximately 200 saplings in their bid to convert the former landfill into a permanent green space.
