Girl ‘treated’ by medical dresser dies in Khargone

Khargone: A 16-year-old girl from Bistan in Khargone district who was suffering from cold, cough, and mild fever died during ‘treatment' by medical dresser on Sunday afternoon.Bistan police station in-charge Gulab Rawat told TOI that the girl, Ayushi, was unwell for two to three days. On Sunday afternoon, her father took her to a private clinic in Bistan, where she was examined by Prakash Chandra Gupta , a retired medical dresser, he said.The family alleged that Gupta administered saline and injected medication through the drip. Shortly after, the girl complained of restlessness and nausea. The saline was reportedly removed, but her condition worsened, and she lost consciousness outside the clinic. The family claimed that another injection was administered to her while she was unconscious, said the police officer.As her condition did not improve, Gupta transported the girl along with her parents to a private hospital in Khargone, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, he said.Family members have questioned how a minor illness could lead to death and accused the practitioner of negligence in treatment. Following the incident, they created a ruckus and lodged a complaint with the police."Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an inquiry. The body was sent for postmortem examination to the district hospital to ascertain exact cause of death," Rawat said.Gupta said that the patient's condition suddenly deteriorated after being put on saline, and he immediately rushed her to Khargone for advanced treatment.
