Dewas firecracker factory blast: Death toll rises to 8 as two more workers die during treatment
INDORE: Two more workers injured in the May 14 firecracker factory blast in Dewas district’s Tonk Kalan area have died during treatment at Indore’s MY Hospital late Friday night, taking the death toll in the tragedy to eight.
MY Hospital superintendent Ashok Yadav said that four victims of the Dewas blast — Ram, son of Mukesh Kumar, 20, a resident of Arariya; Niranjan, son of Hiralalram, 30; Ajay, son of Nanu Paswan; and Vishal, 25 — were admitted to MY Hospital.
While Ram succumbed on Monday, Ajay and Niranjan died on Saturday. Doctors said both had sustained critical burn injuries and their condition remained extremely serious throughout treatment, with over 80% burns, leaving doctors with limited chances of recovery despite intensive care.
Vishal, 25, was admitted to the neurosurgery department a day later after he complained of vomiting and dizziness. Doctors have been closely monitoring his condition and said he is expected to be discharged soon.
Similarly, at Choithram Hospital in Indore, three out of four injured workers — Amit Dave, 19; Amit Mandal, 19; Laltu, 22; and Roshan, 19 — admitted after the explosion have already been discharged. One patient continues to remain under observation and is likely to be discharged soon, hospital authorities said.
The explosion at the illegal firecracker unit in Tonk Kalan triggered a massive blaze and left several workers critically injured, many of whom were trapped inside the premises when the blast occurred. Investigations into the incident are underway.
