Census duty puts DAVV exam schedule under strain ahead of May session
Indore: The nationwide digital census exercise beginning Friday has started affecting the examination machinery of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, raising concern over the smooth conduct of its upcoming May examinations.
With nearly 80 percent employees from the university's examination, confidential departments and affiliated colleges assigned to census-related duties, uncertainty has emerged over preparations for the next phase of examinations scheduled from May 12.
University officials said the shortage of staff is already impacting critical examination arrangements. The ongoing second phase examinations will conclude on May 8, after which the university is scheduled to conduct undergraduate first-year examinations for BA, BCom, BSc and BJMC courses along with second semester examinations for MBA, law and BPEd programmes. Nearly 60,000 students are expected to appear in this phase.
Officials associated with the process said the examination department is responsible for transporting confidential question papers and answer sheets to examination centres and later shifting them to evaluation centres. But, with a large section of employees engaged in census work, several administrative functions linked to examinations are coming under pressure. Staff shortage is being felt not only in the examination section but also in the confidential and administrative branches.
The digital census will be conducted in two phases. Employees from multiple govt departments have been deployed for the exercise.
DAVV examination controller Ashesh Tiwari said the university has already approached the Indore Municipal Corporation seeking relief for some staff members involved in the census operation. "We have sought exemption from IMC commissioner for some of the staff so that we can conduct the exam properly. Else it will be a big challenge for us to complete the exams," he said.
He added that if the shortage of employees continues, work related to examinations, result processing, marksheets and degree distribution would also be affected. The university is now preparing to approach the state govt as well to ensure that the examination process remains on schedule without disruption.
