Manipur Election Result 2022: BJP set to retain power in state

The BJP was ahead of Congress in the initial rounds of counting of votes in Manipur. Counting of votes for 60 assembly seats in Manipur is under way under tight security and strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols, officials said. The counting of votes is a transparent process. There is a standard operating procedure under which we conduct the counting. Authorised polling agents of the political parties are allowed to come inside the counting centre.

JD-U warns of dharna if ‘foul play’ in counting seen
The JD (U), which has become a key player in the Manipur assembly polls, has warned of staging a dharna by its MPs if they see any foul play during counting of votes slated for Thursday. To keep vigil in the counting process, five JD(U) MPs shall be camping in Imphal, said the party’s general secretary Afaque Ahmad Khan in a statement. “If the party gets any complaints from the JD (U) candidates about any foul play during counting, the Members of Parliament shall sit in dharna in front of the respective counting centre,” it said.

The process of counting will be webcast to the district control rooms and also the state control room at the CEO office, an official statement said.

The district election officers and superintendent of police in each district has been directed to make elaborate security arrangement for counting, including a minimum of three-tier security comprising CAPF and the state police.

Manipur polls: 3-tier security for counting of votes today

The recently held two-phased polls for the 12th assembly elections to Manipur witnessed a record 89.3% voter turnout and all arrangements for counting on Thursday are in place, said state chief electoral officer (CEO) Rajesh Agrawal in a statement on Wednesday.
