HYDERABAD: In Greater Hyderabad, electors in the age group of 30-39 years hold the fate of the outcome of the May 13 Lok Sabha elections as they constitute 30% of the total electorate.
According to data, Greater Hyderabad has 1.07 crore voters in 26 assembly constituencies spread across Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts. Currently, there are 45.9 lakh voters in Hyderabad, 28 lakh in Medchal-Malkajgiri and 32 lakh in Rangareddy (excluding Kalwakurthy and Shadnagar). Of the 1.07 crore voters in Greater Hyderabad, a staggering 31 lakh voters fall in the 30-39 age group, making them a formidable force in shaping the election outcome.
This is closely followed by the 40-49 age group with 25 lakh voters, which also holds the key to poll victory.
Young voters in the 18-19 age group, however, form a comparatively small part of the electorate, with about 2.1 lakh voters spread across Greater Hyderabad.
According to election officials, among the four parliamentary constituencies in Greater Hyderabad — Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri and Chevella — Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency has the highest number of voters in the 30-39 age group with 6.7 lakh, followed by Secunderabad with 6 lakh voters in the same age group.
According to the electoral rolls, Greater Hyderabad has over 13.5 lakh senior citizen voters in the 60-79 age group and another 15 lakh voters in the 50-59 age group. In terms of young voters, Greater Hyderabad has more than 19 lakh voters in the 20-29 age group.
Door-to-door campaigns & voter information leafletsIn an attempt to increase voter turnout compared, election officials are taking proactive measures to ensure voters are well informed about the upcoming general election.
“To ensure that voters remember the election date, we are conducting a door-to-door campaign, putting up stickers with the election date and the slogan ‘I am proud to be a voter’. Voter information leaflets will be distributed door-to-door to ensure that all eligible voters have the necessary information to participate in the elections,” said an official in Hyderabad district.
Booth-level officers (BLOs), women’s welfare associations and the urban community development (UCD) department have been tasked with completing the distribution of voter slips and stickers to every household by May 3.
