Telangana govt plans to turn Ambedkar Bhavan as knowledge centre
Hyderabad: The state govt has decided to transform the Ambedkar Bhavan near Tank Bund into a state-of-the-art Ambedkar Knowledge Centre at a cost of Rs 50 crore. Simultaneously, it will upgrade the Babu Jagjivan Ram College Students’ Hostel Complex at Nimboli Adda in Kachiguda into a modern model residential facility for students. SC and ST welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar said the initiatives are aimed at creating an ecosystem of learning, skill development and career advancement for Dalit students and economically disadvantaged youth.
The proposed Ambedkar Knowledge Centre is expected to house a world-class library, digital learning facilities, e-library services, and dedicated coaching infrastructure for civil services, group services, banking, SSC and railway recruitment examinations. It will also offer career guidance and employability training programmes.
Officials believe the centre will emerge as a knowledge hub where thousands of students and unemployed youth can access academic resources, technology-enabled learning and career support under one roof. The govt will also redevelop the Nimboli Adda hostel complex into a model residential campus equipped with modern amenities and a conducive academic environment for students arriving in Hyderabad from various districts in pursuit of higher education.
Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka and minister Adluri Laxman will inspect both projects on Monday. “BR Ambedkar showed us that education, knowledge and empowerment are the strongest tools for social advancement. The Ambedkar Knowledge Centre is not merely a building; it is an investment in the aspirations of thousands of students from marginalised communities. Our goal is to ensure that even a poor student from a remote village has access to world-class opportunities,” said Laxman
Educationists have welcomed the initiative, noting that Telangana’s residential educational institutions have already achieved remarkable success in IIT, NIT, medical and other competitive examinations. They believe the proposed projects will further strengthen the state’s reputation as a national leader in inclusive education.
