Hyderabad: A fire broke out near the Qutb Shahi Tombs area in Tolichowki early on Saturday, causing panic among locals. The incident occurred at around 3 am, reportedly after a short circuit at an electricity substation located near the historic site. The flames quickly spread from the substation to a nearby tyre shop, leading to a sudden blaze.
Nearly 300 people were inside a nearby mosque offering Ramzan prayers at the time of the incident. Worshippers and locals quickly evacuated the premises as the flames intensified. Upon receiving information, fire engines from Punjagutta and Filmnagar rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
According to inspector P Saidulu, although the fire caused property damage, no injuries or casualties were reported. The exact extent of the property loss is yet to be assessed by the authorities. As a precautionary measure, electricity supply to the surrounding areas was temporarily halted while emergency teams handled the situation. Power was later restored after the fire was completely brought under control.
Police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was triggered by a short circuit at the substation, which subsequently spread to the nearby tyre shop. Authorities are continuing their inquiry to determine the full extent of the damage and the sequence of events.
