Old City buzzes with Eid shopping frenzy
Hyderabad: The city is abuzz with Eid-ul-Fitr festivities, with Jumma-tul-Vida, the last Friday of Ramzan, witnessing heightened activity across the city till late at night. The area around Charminar was packed as shoppers thronged Laad Bazaar and adjoining markets for bangles, garments, and perfumes, with shops remaining open late into the night.Traders reported brisk business in the final days of Ramzan, calling it one of the most crucial periods of the year. "There has been continuous footfall, especially at night. Customers are coming in large numbers for last-minute shopping for jewellery," said Jalal, a shopkeeper in the Old City. Eateries too witnessed heavy crowds, particularly during iftar hours and late nights, with many operating beyond regular timings to cater to demand. "This is our peak season. Even with LPG-related challenges, we ensured uninterrupted service by arranging alternative supplies such as wood fire and induction, and by managing stocks efficiently," said Mohd Imtiyaz from an eatery in the Old City, adding that sales remained strong till the final days of Ramzan.Mosques, including Mecca Masjid, saw large congregations on Jumma-tul-Vida, with devotees gathering in thousands for prayers, marking one of the most significant days of the holy month. Meanwhile, traffic curbs were in place across parts of the Old City to manage the rush. Key stretches around Charminar, including Madina, Murgi Chowk, and Shalibanda, witnessed road closures and diversions, with vehicles rerouted at points such as Madina Junction, Himmatpura, Motigalli, and Etebar Chowk to ease congestion.Households across the city were busy with last-minute shopping, cooking preparations, and planning family gatherings.
