Skill push for rural women as SBI Prerana Centres open in 2 villages
Belagavi: With the support of the SBI Foundation, Sankalpa Rural Development Society established SBI Prerana Centres in Sangolli and Amatur villages under the SBI Sammaan Project. Through these centres, free tailoring training is provided to rural women to enhance their skills and promote livelihood opportunities. For one year, a total of 136 women received free tailoring training through six batches. Among them, 76 women were trained at the SBI Prerana Centre in Sangolli village, while 60 women were trained at the SBI Prerana Centre in Amatur village.
The training programme includes practical skills in stitching different garments, such as blouses, dresses, kulcha caps, baby frocks, neck blouses, and boat-neck blouses, enabling women to develop employable tailoring skills.Among the trainees, Shashikala Tigadi and Savita Kadrolli purchased sewing machines and started stitching blouses and dresses from their homes. They now earn approximately Rs 4,000 to 5,000 per month, which helps them support their children's education and manage small household expenses. They expressed happiness, saying that earning through their own efforts gave them a sense of self-reliance and confidence.Several other women who completed the training also earn small incomes through tailoring work. The initiative played an important role in strengthening self-confidence and promoting economic independence among rural women. In addition, to ensure the continuity of the programme, local trainers were identified and provided with employment opportunities, enabling the training activities to be conducted sustainably within the community.
