Davangere: Considering the state govt's people-friendly initiatives and development efforts, Congress candidate Samarth Shamanur is expected to win the byelection by a margin of at least 35,000 votes, chief whip of the legislative council Saleem Ahmed said.
Speaking to reporters here Saturday, Ahmed said the party's internal survey showed strong public support for Samarth and that Congress workers were organising at the booth level. He said the five guarantee schemes had instilled new hope among ordinary people. "These schemes will be the backbone of Congress," he claimed.
Ahmed criticised the BJP, which has been in power at the Centre for the past 12 years, alleging that it had failed to fulfil any of its promises to the people.
KPCC general secretary D Basavaraj, Ramachandra and Mohammad Ghouse were present.
