Belagavi: More than 10.2 lakh unorganised sector workers in Belagavi district registered on the e-Shram portal, enabling them to access various welfare schemes of the Central govt, Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi said.
In a release, Kadadi stated that the information was provided in a written reply by Union minister of state for labour and employment Shobha Karandlaje during the ongoing budget session of Parliament in New Delhi. The reply was given to a question raised regarding the development and social security of unorganised workers in Belagavi district.
Highlighting the Centre's focus on labour welfare under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kadadi said the e-Shram initiative helped bring a large number of workers in the unorganised sector under the social security net.
According to the data shared in Parliament, several registered workers in the district are already benefiting from govt schemes. Under Ayushman Bharat, 3,77,920 beneficiaries were covered, while 2,72,136 people availed benefits under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) – Gramin. Additionally, 1,58,333 workers enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and 73,381 beneficiaries were linked to the ‘One Nation One Ration Card' scheme.
Kadadi said the govt prioritised recognising and supporting the labour of workers such as construction labourers, sugarcane harvesters and domestic workers. Through the e-Shram portal, they are not only being provided social and financial security but are also being connected to skill development opportunities under Skill India and employment opportunities through the National Career Service platform.
He added that the initiative aims to strengthen the social security framework for unorganised workers and ensure that more labourers benefit from govt welfare schemes.
