Man sentenced to 10 years for abetting woman’s suicide
Kalaburagi: The Kalaburagi district magistrate and sessions court on Friday sentenced Malappa Mahanthappa Ankalagi, a resident of Sharan Shirasagi Tanda, to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for abetting a woman's suicide in Kalaburagi.The court held Ankalagi guilty after hearing arguments from both sides. Principal district and sessions judge JL Lakshminarayana passed the sentence and directed that Rs 20,000 from the fine be given to the mother of the deceased woman, while the remaining Rs 5,000 be deposited with the govt.According to the prosecution, Ankalagi harassed Bhagyashree of Sharan Shirasagi Tanda and threatened to post her pictures on social media if she did not marry him.Aggrieved by this, the young woman committed suicide on Nov 18, 2023. Sangamesh Patil, the investigating officer of the women's station, submitted a chargesheet to the court in the case.Public prosecutor-in-charge NR Narasimhalu argued for the govt.
