Clashes outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Kolkata have intensified the Form 6 controversy in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. TMC and BJP workers confronted each other amid allegations of voter list manipulation, with TMC accusing the BJP and the Election Commission of enabling “voter theft” through bulk Form 6 submissions. The BJP has rejected the claims, accusing TMC of intimidation tactics. The Supreme Court has refused to halt the Special Intensive Revision process, stating that over 47 lakh cases have been resolved and the exercise will be completed by April 7. It termed concerns over misuse as premature and directed complaints to the appellate tribunals. The Election Commission has reiterated that Form 6 is used only for voter inclusion or transfer, with strict verification in place. As tensions rise, the issue has become a key political battleground in the state.
