Belagavi: Public works minister
Satish Jarkiholi addressed a press conference at the Congress Bhavan here on Sunday. On civic issues, the minister highlighted the long-pending solid waste management problem in Belagavi, stating that the issue has persisted for over two decades. He reiterated his proposal to establish four waste processing plants in different parts of the city as a permanent solution, alleging a lack of interest from MLA Abhay Patil.
Touching upon irrigation concerns, Jarkiholi said the Kalasa-Banduri project is awaiting clearance from the National Board for Wildlife under the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change. He noted that preparations are in place in this regard, and an all-party delegation will pursue approvals.
Referring to the recent collapse of gate No. 22 of the Hipparagi barrage, which led to the loss of an estimated 2.5 to 3.5 Tmcft of water, the minister said Karnataka representatives plan to visit Maharashtra to seek additional water release to mitigate the emerging crisis.
