Belagavi: Belagavi police commissionerate has extended the detention of five habitual offenders from the district for six months under sections 55 and 56 of the Karnataka Police Act.
Police said the action targets individuals involved in the illegal sale of ganja and violent offences, including murder, attempt to murder and assaults with deadly weapons. The move, police said, is aimed at curbing criminal activity and restoring public confidence.
Among those externed is Piraji Yallappa Yasuche of Ganpat Galli in Halaga, who faces four cases under the NDPS Act at Belagavi Rural police station.
Brothers Yash Ganesh Davle alias Gavali and Aditya Ganesh Davle alias Gavali, residents of Gavali Galli in Mangalwar Peth, were externed based on their alleged involvement in murder and assault cases registered at Tilakwadi police station.
Santosh alias Armog Govind Diwatgi of Parvati Nagar, against whom five cases related to assault and murder are registered under the limits of Udyambag police station, has also been externed.
Rafiq alias Mohammad Rafiq Istiyak Sheikh of Machhe was externed following cases registered at Belagavi Rural police station.
Police officials said the externment orders are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and maintain law and order in the city.
