Dharwad-born scientist named Global Top Innovator for ‘Nano Ayurvedic Medicine’
Dharwad: In a moment of pride for the region, Dharwad native Dr Kattesh V Katti has been selected as the ‘Top Innovator of the Year in Healthcare for 2026' by the International Association of Top Professionals. He has been honoured for pioneering a new medical field termed ‘Nano Ayurvedic Medicine.'Currently based in the United States, Dr Katti serves as distinguished curators' professor of radiology and director of the Institute of Green Nanotechnology at the University of Missouri. His academic journey began in Dharwad at KE Board's High School and JSS Science College, followed by higher studies at the Regional College of Education, Mysore, and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Science.According to IAOTP, the recognition is reserved for a select group of professionals who demonstrate exceptional academic achievements, leadership, and contributions to society.Dr Katti's research spans over three decades and includes more than 300 scientific publications, over 150 inventions, and upwards of 50 patents. His work in nanomedicine, molecular imaging, and radio-pharmaceutical sciences has earned him several prestigious global honours, including the Hevesy Medal Award. He is also a Fellow at leading scientific bodies such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the National Academy of Inventors.A key breakthrough in his career has been the development of green nanotechnology, which integrates plant-based compounds with metals like gold and silver to create nanoparticles with therapeutic applications. Working alongside his wife, Dr Kavita Katti, he demonstrated that certain ayurvedic plants—such as clove, cardamom, and cinnamon—can act as natural sources of electrons, enabling the synthesis of medicinal nanoparticles. This research led to the development of formulations like Nano Swarna Rasayana and Nano Rajata Rasayana, bridging traditional ayurveda with modern nanoscience. His work has helped establish a scientific basis for several ayurvedic treatments.Meanwhile, Bengaluru-based Kadamba has acquired patent rights to his innovations and is manufacturing Ayush-approved nano-ayurveda products. These are being used in treating cancer, arthritis, infections, and other diseases through a growing network of NanoCare centres across India.Dr Katti is widely regarded as one of the most influential scientists in molecular imaging globally.
