B’gavi Brahmin Samaj Trust seeks action against fraudulent land transfers
Belagavi: Belagavi Brahmin Samaj Trust has demanded strict legal action against those accused of illegally grabbing ancestral properties of the Brahmin community using fabricated documents, and against sub-registrars who registered such properties.A delegation led by trust president Ram Bhandare and vice-president Bharat Deshpande submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Mohammad Roshan Tuesday.
The trust urged the administration to conduct a comprehensive probe into land registrations done using forged records and to file criminal cases against the concerned sub-registrars. It also sought police protection for affected families and restoration of their legal rights. To prevent similar cases in future, the memorandum called for stricter verification in the land registration process. The trust alleged that in several rural and urban areas of the district, ancestral properties passed down through generations were transferred using fake ownership records, forged signatures, and documents showing deceased persons as alive. It further alleged that sub-registrar offices in Belagavi, Khanapur and other parts of the district registered properties without proper scrutiny."How can land be registered based on fake documents? How could this happen without administrative negligence?" they asked.Trust treasurer Ramesh Kulkarni, joint secretary Vilas Joshi, executive member Anushree Deshpande and several members were present.DC Mohammad Roshan said land grabbing through forged documents was being taken seriously. "Action was already initiated in Hukkeri. Similar strict legal action will be taken in cases reported from other taluks as well," he said.
