Bagalkot: Members of Anjuman E Islam Bagalkot staged a dharana, saying Waqf minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan not to visit Bagalkot for the by-poll campaign, here on Saturday.
They alleged that Bagalkot Anjuman E Islam is running educational institutions. "We changed the president nine months ago and sent a proposal to the Karnataka Wakf Board in Bengaluru to approve it. It was delayed for nine months. Our late MLA HY Meti met Ahmed Khan twice to approve the proposal. But he did not do it. However, he approved such a proposal of Anjuman E Islam of Mudhol within 15 days. Ahmed Khan is also dividing the Muslim community in the district. We have told district minister RB Timmapur and AICC secretary Gopinath Palaniswami not to invite Ahmed Khan for the campaign. If he comes, we will protest against it," they warned.
They also said that if their proposal was illegal, he should have returned it.
