Silchar: A 32-year-old man from Tripura was arrested in Sribhumi’s Badarpur railway station on Sunday after five gold bars, weighing 585 grams, were recovered from his possession, the Govt Railway Police (GRP) said.
The accused, a resident of Ranirbazar, near Agartala, was apprehended during a routine checking drive aboard the Agartala–Deoghar Weekly Express.
According to GRP sources, on-duty personnel noticed the passenger behaving suspiciously. When questioned, he allegedly failed to provide satisfactory answers, prompting them to search his luggage.
During the search, officials recovered five specially packed gold bars, weighing a total of 585 grams and valued at over Rs 85 lakh, from his possession. Authorities suspect the gold to be of foreign origin.
The accused has been taken into custody for further investigation.
