Tripura man gets life in jail for killing wife

Agartala: The additional district & sessions judge of Tripura’s Khowai district has sentenced Ratan Debbarma to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife in 1996.The victim, Chabi Rani Debbarma (25), was reportedly killed by her husband at her elder sister’s residence in Mudibari, Khowai, during the early hours of Sept 25, 1996, when he allegedly attacked her with an axe.The case had remained unresolved for nearly 30 years before the court delivered its verdict. Tripura Police credited the successful conviction to the diligent investigation carried out by then sub-inspector Pranab Das of Khowai police station, who now serves as DSP (traffic).
