Tripura courier boy suicide: 3 suspects sent to judicial custody
Agartala: A local court in North Tripura on Thursday sent three prime suspects in connection with the assault of a courier boy, who later died by suicide, to 14 days of judicial custody.Prasenjit Sarkar had committed suicide on Sunday, allegedly after he was assaulted in public by a group of youths, led by a woman teacher, for the late delivery of a consignment. A video of the incident was later circulated on social media, leading to humiliation for him. Family members claim that the mental anguish and emotional turmoil from the event drove Sarkar to hang himself.Following public outrage and social pressure, police apprehended the three suspects from Karimganj of South Assam. The accused were identified as Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangeeta Bhattacharjee and Sourav Bhattacharjee, all residents of Dharmanagar in North Tripura, police said.

The arrests followed an investigation into the events leading to Prasenjit’s suicide. After their arrests, the suspects were presented before a court and have been placed in judicial custody until Dec 30.The govt public prosecutor informed the court that police will be given permission to question the suspects within the jail if necessary, as the investigation remains active and various elements of the case require further examination.
One of the suspects, who was working at a private school in Dharmanagar, has been terminated from her employment by the school administration, citing the gravity of the allegations and her connection to the case.The case has garnered considerable attention throughout the region, with calls for severe penalties against those found culpable of abetting the crime.
