Silchar: A joint platform of tribal students’ organisations in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Wednesday demanded a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the death of a youth whose body was recovered last week, expressing shock and concern over the incident.
Tension gripped the Gadain Raji area under Mahur police station after a fatal hit-and-run on Dec 26. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with locals blocking NH-27 for several hours, disrupting traffic. Protesters reportedly set tyres ablaze, causing long snarls and leaving many vehicles stranded. Police and district administration officials rushed to the site to restore order. Additional security personnel were deployed to prevent escalation, while efforts are underway to identify and trace the vehicle involved.
