Shillong: CM Conrad K Sangma inaugurated the Nehru Ading Locality Beautification Project at Hawakhana in Tura, headquarters of the West Garo Hills district, on Saturda
At the event, organised by the Nehru Ading Development and Welfare Committee, the CM said multiple development initiatives amounting to over Rs 700 crore are currently underway for the development of Tura town.
Highlighting infrastructure initiatives under the Smart City Mission, he said Rs 60 crore has been allocated for paving internal roads in different localities. In addition, Rs 15 crore has been spent in Phase-I for street lighting and beautification, while another Rs 15 crore has been sanctioned for the beautification of Tura Bazar.
The CM also highlighted the ongoing city beautification drive, under which CCTV cameras and streetlights are being installed across Tura.
“Airports, five star hotels, road connectivity, CCTV networks and street lighting are all important and crucial for building the ecosystem required to take Tura to the next level,” said Sangma, who represents the South Tura assembly constituency. He said around 350 CCTV cameras and 500 street lights are being installed across Tura as part of the initiative.
