Shillong: Anti-narcotics task force (ANTF) of Meghalaya Police seized heroin and methamphetamine worth over Rs 51 crore in the illegal market on Friday, busting an inter-state drug syndicate in the process.
According to an ANTF statement, a naka checking operation was conducted at Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills on Friday. A four-wheeler was intercepted and searched as per legal procedure.
The vehicle carried two passengers and a driver. From one female passenger, officers recovered 19 plastic soap cases containing suspected heroin, weighing 203.7 grams. A further search revealed a blue trolley bag belonging to the other passenger, which contained suspected crystal meth (methamphetamine) weighing 10.145kg.
Preliminary investigation suggests the accused are linked to a larger inter-state and cross-border drug trafficking network. The seized contraband is valued at approximately Rs 51,13,24,000 — the highest-value recovery of NDPS substances by Meghalaya Police to date.
