Dimapur: Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police, in a joint operation, seized foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 1.29 crore in Tening area under Peren district, an Assam Rifles release said on Friday.
The illegally imported cigarettes were seized from a truck. One person has been arrested in this connection.
The seized consignment was handed over to the agencies concerned for further investigation and necessary action.
The release said this operation reflected the continuous efforts by both security forces and state police to curb the inflow of contraband into Nagaland, preventing loss of govt revenue and protecting local markets and communities from the harmful effects of unchecked illegal trade.
