Silchar: The Election Commission has ordered a repoll at a polling station in Assam’s Karimganj North assembly constituency following allegations of irregularities during voting held on April 9.
In an official directive, the Commission said the decision was taken after reviewing reports of discrepancies at Booth No. 239, located at Babylane High English School. Citing the need to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, the poll body annulled the earlier voting at the booth.
According to the order, fresh polling will be conducted on April 11 from 7am to 5pm. Authorities have been instructed to widely publicise the repoll in the area and inform all contesting candidates and political parties in writing.
The Commission has also directed the returning officer to strictly adhere to the guidelines and ensure smooth conduct of the repoll. Observers and district election officials have been duly notified.
Officials said the move underscores the Commission’s commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness in the ongoing Assam assembly elections.
