Over 500 grams of heroin seized in Mizoram, five arrested

Aizawl: Mizoram excise & narcotics department officials seized over 500 grams of heroin in two operations on Wednesday night and arrested five people, department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said on Thursday.In Aizawl, the department’s Anti Narcotics Squad, in a joint operation with the Central Anti Drugs Squad (CADS) of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), seized around 400 grams of heroin at Bawngkawn. Three people — Lianzuali (40) of North Vanlaiphai village in Serchhip district, Zohmingliana (40) and Lalawmpuia (36), both residents of of Edenthar Veng locality — were arrested for alleged possession of the contraband. They were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and produced before the Special Court (ND&PS Act) in Aizawl on Thursday.In a separate operation in Champhai district bordering Myanmar, excise & narcotics officials seized over 118 grams of heroin on Wednesday night at Kawipui playground in Champhai town. Two women — Lalhmingmawii (30) of Champhai Vengthlang locality and PC Rohlupuii (35) of Ngur village in Champhai District — were arrested for alleged possession of the seized drug. They were booked under the NDPS Act, 1985 and produced before the court of the district & sessions judge in Champhai on Thursday.
