NSF cautions against unguarded remarks on Naga political issue
Dimapur: Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Friday cautioned that “unguarded statements, mutual accusations, and public finger-pointing” on the Naga political issue could further complicate and escalate the situation at this critical juncture.
Expressing serious concern over frequent remarks made by individuals and groups through the media, the NSF acknowledged the enthusiasm and genuine concerns of those yearning for an early and honourable solution.
On Thursday, several senior leaders of Nagaland met at former CM S C Jamir’s farmhouse in Chumoukedima, where they deliberated on the issue and called for its early resolution in the context of the Framework Agreement with NSCN (I-M) signed on Aug 3, 2015, and the Agreed Position with the working committee of the Naga National Political Groups on Nov 17, 2017.
“At this crucial moment in our history, the need of the hour is unity — unity of purpose, unity of vision, and unity of the Naga people,” the federation said.
The NSF stressed that the Naga political issue is not confined to Nagaland alone but is a historical and political question encompassing all Nagas living beyond “artificial and imposed territorial boundaries.”
Calling for sincerity and political will from the Centre, the federation appealed to all Naga political groups to come together in unity, maturity, and mutual respect to hammer out a lasting and honourable settlement.
It reiterated that any agreement reached without addressing the core issues of territorial integration and the political identity of the Naga homeland would be incomplete. The federation affirmed that the movement will continue until the collective aspiration of the Nagas to live under one political umbrella is realised.
