No LPG shortage in Assam, Manipur: IOCL
Guwahati: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) on Friday said Assam is not facing any domestic LPG shortage. With four refineries in the state producing around 1,200 MT of LPG daily, supply remains smooth, and current stocks are sufficient to last 11-13 days.
Similarly, IOCL in Imphal confirmed that Manipur is not experiencing any shortage of LPG or other petroleum products, with adequate stock available.
Amarjyoti Bordoloi, chief general manager (LPG) of IOCL Assam, said, “There are rumours of a domestic LPG shortage in Assam due to the conflict in West Asia. The situation here is normal. Our refineries are producing enough LPG, and there is no scarcity.” He added that the online booking system for domestic LPG cylinders had temporarily crashed due to an overload of bookings, which was nearly 10 times higher than usual.
“However, the system has since been restored, and consumers can now book refills without panic. Consumers are requested to follow the 25-day gap rule between two bookings," he added.
An IOCL source said the northeast requires 1.91 lakh domestic cylinders (14.2 kg) daily, with Assam alone consuming 1.34 lakh. IOCL supplies 1.62 lakh cylinders daily in the region, including 1.06 lakh in Assam.
Meanwhile, Manipur’s director of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, K Bono Singh, in a statement said reports of LPG and petroleum shortages in the state were “misleading”.
“IOCL has clarified that the temporary disruption in LPG distribution over the past few days was due to a purely technical issue at the all-India level in the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system. This issue has now been resolved and was in no way connected to the stock position of LPG in the state,” the director added.
“The department urged consumers not to panic or hoard LPG and petroleum products, as such actions may lead to accidents and safety hazards,” he said.
