.
The surrendered individual was identified as self-styled 2nd Lieutenant Bitul Baruah, 31, a cadre of the outlawed outfit at Horu Chinghan in Tirap district. A .40 calibre pistol with a magazine and two live rounds were recovered from him at the time of surrender.
Tirap district, which shares a border with Myanmar, has long been a sensitive area owing to the presence and movement of armed cadres from various insurgent outfits operating along the India-Myanmar frontier, including Ulfa. The cadre is expected to be handed over to the Tinsukia police in Assam for further proceedings, officials said.
