Shillong: Union Home Minister
Amit Shah on Thursday said the Narendra Modi-led govt has freed the northeast from the scourge of insurgency and ushered in an era of systematic development across the region.
Addressing the 73rd plenary session of the NEC at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, Shah, who also serves as the NEC chairman, said the foundation of development can only be built on the pillars of strong law and order and social harmony.
He noted that over the past 12 years, more than 12 peace accords have been signed to resolve various conflicts in the northeast, while over 10,800 youths have joined the mainstream after laying down arms.
According to Shah, the diversity of the northeast has emerged as one of its greatest strengths. He said the region, once known primarily for insurgency and conflict, is now recognised globally as an “opportunity hotspot” and a symbol of coexistence and harmony.
Shah further said the govt has successfully translated the principles of “Act East, Act Fast and Act First” into reality. He emphasised that the northeast has not been left to fend for itself, but has instead witnessed focused and sustained developmental efforts.
He added that the region has made steady progress by overcoming challenges related to peace and stability, promoting prosperity and development, and preserving its unique cultural identity.
