Man performs fake rituals to dupe woman, arrested
Guwahati: Police arrested a man on Monday night for allegedly duping a woman by promising to solve her problems through tantrik rituals.According to Basistha PS officer-in-charge (OC), the accused has been identified as Faruk Ojha. “Ojha allegedly duped a woman in the Sankardev Nagar area of the city by performing a fake puja and stealing her gold ornaments on Feb 11. He has been arrested,” the OC said.

The OC said police recovered a motorcycle, fake certificates, three mobile phones, and clothes. “Gold jewellery and cash of Rs 57,420 was recovered from his possession. However, further probe also led to the arrest of another man, Santosh Kumar Prasad, who hails from Kheroni area in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district. Prasad received the jewellery from Ojha,” he added.“We have registered a case under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act,” he said.Police have advised citizens to remain cautious against such frauds and report suspicious activity by calling 112.
