Khemchand condemns Kangpokpi killings, visits injured in hospital
Imphal: Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the firing by armed miscreants on a group of civilians between Kotlen and Kotzim areas in Kangpokpi district that left three people dead and four injured on Wednesday.
Of the four injured, three were rushed to Shija Hospitals and Research Institute in Imphal for treatment.
Singh, accompanied by deputy CM Losii Dikho, home minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLAs and other officials, visited the injured and enquired about their well-being.
The chief minister announced that the govt will bear all medical expenses for the injured and directed authorities to ensure they receive the highest standard of care.
“This act of violence is deeply troubling and devastating not only for the families but for the entire state, as it disrupts our path to peace. Our state is gradually moving towards peace, therefore, actions that undermine this collective effort of our people to restore normalcy are unacceptable,” the CM said in a statement.
He said terrorism and violence targeting civilians have no place in society. “There is no justification in any society for acts of terrorism in all its forms. The entire state and our people stand together against such act of terror and our resolve to fight against terrorism is unshakable,” he added.
Singh appealed to all sections of society to uphold peace, show restraint and refrain from emotional responses.
He urged people to stop abductions, taking hostages and intimidation on community lines.
“This can only aggravate the situation. I assure the people that we will use every resource of the state to bring the perpetrators and their handlers to justice. I pray for the peace of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured,” the statement added.
