Jordan Centre to be handed over to Presbyterian Church’s Mizoram Synod
Aizawl: Mizoram minister for social welfare, women & child development Lalrinpuii on Wednesday said the state govt has decided to hand over the Jordan Centre at Sethawn in Kolasib district bordering Assam to the Presbyterian Church's Mizoram Synod.Replying to a question from Ramthanmawia and K Laldawngliana of Mizo National Front (MNF) in the assembly, Lalrinpuii said the govt-owned facility for drug addicts is most likely to be taken over by the Presbyterian Church soon as the church has already allocated Rs 2 crore for the takeover.

She said the church has been making preparations, with the Synod Executive Committee (SEC), the second highest decision making authority of the Presbyterian Church, expected to hold a meeting soon, and expressed hope it would take a favourable decision.“The handover will take place as soon as the church is ready for taking over the centre. The agreement will be signed between the govt and the Presbyterian Church and the legal approval from the law & judicial department is awaited,” she said.The Jordan Centre has been almost abandoned by the state govt and is hardly functioning.
