Imphal: In a bid to revive Manipur’s struggling public transport system, additional chief secretary (transport) Anurag Bajpai on Saturday announced that the inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) will become fully operational within the next 10 days, while city bus services will be launched soon to improve urban mobility.
Speaking at a media sensitisation programme during national road safety month 2026, Bajpai said repair work at the ISBT is in its final phase. Once functional, the terminal is expected to ease traffic congestion in Imphal and serve the larger public interest.
He added that the introduction of city bus services is part of the govt’s efforts to strengthen public transport infrastructure and reduce dependence on private vehicles.
Emphasising that road safety must be a sustained social movement, Bajpai stressed the need for awareness beginning at the school level to instil respect for traffic rules and the value of human life. He said Manipur recorded 2,000-3,000 road accidents resulting in over 830 fatalities.
