Guwahati: State govt is gearing up for a grand celebration to mark the 100th birth anniversary of
Bhupen Hazarika, with a series of events scheduled on the 8th and 13th of this month. The celebrations are being designed to pay tribute to the legendary maestro, who is also a global cultural icon.
Rahul Chandra Das, the director of cultural affairs department said on Sept 8, which is the birth anniversary of Hazarika, several programmes will be organised across the state.
“Instructions have been issued to all DCs and co-DCs to organise programmes in every district. The commemorations will begin with floral tributes at designated venues, followed by cultural performances in the evening. Seminars and discussions on his life and contributions will be held in schools, colleges, and universities,” Das said.
He added that at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra in the city’s Jalukbari area, both the chief minister and the governor will offer their tributes to the music legend. The occasion will be marked by a day-long cultural programme, which will culminate in the screening of a film on his life and works.
On Sept 13, when PM
Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati, a grand programme will take place at the Khanapara field, where 1,000 singers will come together to perform 13 of Hazarika’s evergreen songs.Bhupen Hazarika’s evergreen songs, bringing his timeless creations back to life in a collective chorus.To mark the occasion, a special Rs 100 commemorative coin dedicated to Hazarika will also be formally released. In addition, his autobiography is set to be launched in 23 different languages, ensuring that his thoughts, philosophy, and life story can reach a much wider audience across India and beyond.
