From the bustling hubs of GS Road to the vibrant lanes of Chandmari, popular venues have seen reservations skyrocket by over 30%-40% compared to last year. Owners and managers of pubs and restro-cafes have claimed that people have been booking their tables since mid-Dec.
“People crave the perfect mix of thumping music on the dance floor and a festive vibe to bid farewell to the year. Venues are promising an electrifying night with DJ sets by top artists and an exciting midnight countdown. We are offering a package system for couples and stags, with an option for unlimited food and drinks, including starters and a main course meal,” said Madhur Sharma, a local pub owner. Sharma also highlighted the role of social media and online booking platforms, which have made reservations easy and convenient.
This rising demand highlights the city’s evolving nightlife culture, with young crowds increasingly drawn to energetic and colourful celebrations.
Pubs are leaving no stone unturned, as DJs blend Bollywood hits with Assamese folk fusion to celebrate local traditions, with performances continuing until midnight. Beyond DJ music, people independently organising New Year parties are also introducing karaoke sessions, giving guests a chance to be part of the entertainment, a trend that has been gaining momentum in recent times.
“The sole purpose of New Year’s celebrations is to enjoy freely with your near and dear ones. There will be celebrations with DJs playing music along with karaoke sessions, followed by a special fireworks display once the clock strikes 12,” said Himakash Bora, who has organised his own New Year party.
While food is an important part of the celebration, menus are offering diverse temptations, including ethnic food options at wallet-friendly prices. “We are rolling out a special NYE, where there would be special discounts on food dishes including pork, prawn, chicken and vegetarian options. In our drinks option, even non-alcoholic options are a hit with families joining the fun,” said Ajay Jana, a city-based pub owner.
