Aizawl: The state tourism department on Tuesday inaugurated the two-day Tlaizawng Paradise festival at Tuivai Bridge near Phuaibuang village on the Manipur border, as part of the state govt’s push to promote tourism by showcasing natural attractions.
“Tlaizawng”, which refers to cherry blossom, symbolises the scenic charm the festival seeks to highlight.
Speaker of the assembly, Lalbiakzama, inaugurated the event in the presence of tourism minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, senior tourism department officials, community leaders from Phuaibuang and Luangpawn, and visitors.
A new feature this year was a grand angling competition along the Tuivai river outside the designated fish sanctuary area, drawing around 600 participants.
In his address, the speaker said he was happy with the choice of Phuaibuang as the venue and said the initiative reflects an effort to attract tourists by harnessing the area’s natural beauty and resources.
He stressed hospitality towards visitors and said unity and cooperation among local communities are vital for the success of tourism-driven initiatives.
