Silchar: A police constable was killed in a hit-and-run accident late Tuesday night at Panchgram in Assam’s Hailakandi district.
The deceased, Sebak Dutta, was a resident of the Rongpur area of Silchar. He was posted with the Border Branch of Sribhumi district police.
According to police, the accident occurred on the Panchgram–Dhaleswar bypass when a speeding SUV allegedly rammed into Dutta’s motorcycle. The impact flung him off the bike, killing him on the spot, while the vehicle fled immediately after the collision.
Police rushed to the scene on receiving information and recovered the damaged motorcycle. The body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Investigators said the vehicle involved is yet to be identified, and efforts are on to trace it using CCTV footage from nearby areas. Sources said Dutta was riding towards Silchar from his workplace in Sribhumi when the accident occurred.
