Cop complaint against bar for operating beyond permitted hours
Guwahati: An advocate on Wednesday filed a police complaint against the bar where three women, who died in a road accident on Sunday, had partied with their now-arrested friend, alleging the establishment operated beyond legally permitted hours. The excise department has also ordered an inquiry into the matter.
The deceased women — Akansha Saikia, Puja Saha and Armina Ahmed — and their friend Samim Ahmed, who allegedly fled the spot soon after the accident and was arrested by police on Tuesday, had consumed liquor worth Rs 19,000 from 11pm on Saturday till 3am on Sunday. The road accident occurred at 4.02am.
The complaint was filed by Gauhati HC advocate Gitima Borah at the Noonmati police station.
Under excise department regulations, bars are required to shut by 12.30am. The complainant questioned how the bar remained open and continued serving alcohol until as late as 3.30am, and urged police to register a case against both the bar authorities and the Excise Department under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
