Shillong: Known for his people-friendly politics and love for music, Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma often charms crowds with his cultural flair, breaking into impromptu songs and dances during celebrations.
On his tour of rural areas in the Garo Hills under the CM Connect programme — aimed at interacting with people and understanding their needs — Conrad joined villagers in a community dance to celebrate the New Year.
“The community is having a great moment of dancing and celebrating the New Year. So I am here to have a short participation,” he said on Sunday. “In Garo Hills, New Year celebration is incomplete without a community dance. I joined the people of Mangsang Chimagre village, East Garo Hills, for a dance as part of the festive season,” he posted on his social media handle.
On New Year’s Eve, the CM, adept at the piano keyboard, rendered a soulful Gospel song. “This is a beautiful song that originated in the Garo Hills and it speaks about our faith in Jesus Christ. No matter what challenges come before us, our faith will never be shaken. Let us start this New Year with a sense of faith, hope and forgiveness,” he said.
Reflecting on the year ahead, Conrad added, “Ending the year with this lovely Gospel song. It speaks about true resilience in pursuing our beliefs. May we enter 2026 with resilience, focused on our goals, and always hopeful. The only direction is forward and upward in 2026.”
