Silchar: A 30-year-old man was killed after a speeding car allegedly lost control and rammed into a roadside fast-food stall along NH-306 near Saidpur in Cachar district.
The deceased has been identified as Shyamal Das (30), a resident of Saidpur. According to witnesses, the incident took place near Charkisha Mokam along the Silchar–Aizawl road on Saturday evening.
Das was sitting beside the eatery. Locals said a car coming from the Silchar side suddenly veered off the road and crashed directly into the stall. The impact of the collision was so severe that a large donation box kept beside the shop was smashed into pieces, and parts of the structure were damaged.
Das sustained critical head injury and multiple wounds on his body and died on the spot, residents said. Hearing the loud crash, people from nearby houses and shops rushed to the scene and alerted the police.
A team from Silchar Sadar police station reached the spot sent to body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
Police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.
