Silchar: Cachar district has secured the first position in the state in the best practices category for implementing Mission Uttaran, an innovative initiative taken up to reduce mother and child mortality in the tea gardens.
An official communiqué said due to the convergent interventions under Mission Uttaran, maternal mortality had reduced from 15 (during 2020-21) to 9 (from 2021-to 22) in tea gardens of Cachar.
The award was given on the occasion of World Health Day at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, in Guwahati on Thursday. Mission Uttaran was depicted through a poster presentation at the programme. Minister for health Keshab Mahanta handed over the best practices award to Cachar deputy commissioner Keerthi Jalli.
District project manager, NHM, and Cachar DC briefly spoke about the implementation process of Mission Uttaran to the health minister and other officials on the occasion. In a message to NHM, mission director Lakshmanan S appreciated the targeted efforts taken up by the district health administration under the leadership of Cachar DC and requested to fully utilise the benefits under the wage compensation scheme for pregnant women in tea garden areas. Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy also congratulated the deputy commissioner and her entire team from the health sector for making the district proud.
