BJP pitches for rights of indigenous people as poll rally enters Morigaon
Guwahati: BJP’s “Jan Ashirwad Yatra”, led by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, entered Assam’s Morigaon district on the second day of its statewide outreach drive ahead of the assembly elections.
Positioning the yatra as a decisive political mobilisation, the CM asserted that every single vote for BJP would strengthen the party’s mandate to intensify its campaign against infiltrators and safeguard Assam’s identity.
The CM reiterated govt’s commitment to reclaiming five lakh bighas of encroached land over the next five years. He asserted that land pattas would be granted exclusively to indigenous people, sending what he termed a clear message regarding the protection of Assam’s land and identity.
“Participation of thousands of people in the yatra has surpirsed me. It is little difficult for me to take part in such rallies for more than 12 hours without sitting for a moment at this age. But, the spirit of the people and their blessings encourage me every moment,” he said.
Party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita said on the first day of the rally, throughout the route, people welcomed the CM with traditional rituals, lighting earthen lamps and incense, and showering him with flower petals. “Large gatherings assembled along the highways to express gratitude for a series of policy measures undertaken by the state govt, including land pattas for indigenous residents, merit-based and transparent recruitment processes, welfare schemes for youth empowerment, the Orunodoi initiative, the CM’s Entrepreneurship Mission and wage enhancement for tea garden workers,” he added.
Kalita said the yatra resumed on Sunday from the Jagiroad assembly constituency, with CM Sarma and BJP state president Dilip Saikia joining in.
The yatra will cover Morigaon, Raha, Nagaon and Barhampur constituencies under the campaign theme “Assam’s Security is BJP’s Commitment.”
Kalita said the yatra also highlighted govt’s initiatives to restore and redevelop the historic Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardev. “Symbolically, the presence of bulldozers during segments of the procession in Jagirod underscored the administration’s stated resolve against illegal encroachment,” he added.
