Assam Rifles steps up patrol in Kamjong district
Guwahati: Assam Rifles has stepped up area domination patrols across sensitive stretches of Manipur’s Kamjong district following Thursday’s firing incident along the India-Myanmar border that left a Myanmarese refugee woman wounded.
According to a defence PRO, heavy firing and explosions were reported near Z Choro and Namlee villages in the early hours of Thursday. “Despite the volatile situation, troops of the Assam Rifles responded proactively, moving into the affected area under challenging conditions to safeguard the people,” the official said.
Rescue teams secured ten houses, evacuated civilians, and brought fifteen distressed villagers — including women and children — to safety at the Aloyo Assam Rifles camp. The injured Myanmarese woman was given immediate first aid and evacuated for medical care.
Rapid sanitisation operations followed to prevent escalation. One armed cadre was apprehended with an AK-47 rifle, magazine and ammunition, and later handed over to local police.
Meanwhile, security forces seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives in coordinated operations in Senapati and Churachandpur districts. In Senapati’s Maranmei hill range, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and CRPF recovered 15 weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, an MP-5 rifle, a .303 rifle, two .22 rifles, four locally made bolt-action rifles, three pistols and a shotgun, along with more than 70 live rounds. Police described the recovery as a significant step in disrupting illegal arms supply networks and deterring insurgent activity.
In Churachandpur’s Hengkapkot area, additional arms and explosives were seized, including three single-barrel rifles, a .303 rifle, a pumpi, four rocket shells, a 500-gram cylindrical IED and a 4-kg conical IED.
