Alliance members back Himanta as leader, foresee quick growth for state
Guwahati: Delighted over the unanimous selection of Himanta Biswa Sarma as the leader of NDA, the alliance’s newly elected members to the 126-member assembly expressed confidence that Assam will witness doubled-paced progress and development under his leadership in the next five years.
BJP’s Rishiraj Hazarika, who has been elected from the newly-created Ronganodi constituency, said, “This govt under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma is determined to ensure that no illegal Bangladeshi can see the Sanatan civilisation with a negative eye. We are also committed to working as soldiers in Sarma’s unstoppable journey.”
He added that Sarma is a dynamic and energetic leader, who led the state from the front in the last five years. “The state will progress at the double-paced speed in the next five years,” he said.
Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, who quit Congress and joined BJP, and won the assembly election from Katigorah, said he is excited to work under Sarma’s leadership.
“Being a Sanatani, I could not speak up when I was in Congress. Where one cannot speak for Hindu Sanatan civilisation, there is no point in staying there,” he added.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka said the BJP govt led by Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered more than the expectation of the people of the state in the last five years.
“The last term of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led govt was a trailer and the next term will be the film,” he added.
BJP’s key ally Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Prakash Chandra Das, who has won the election from the Hajo-Sualkuchi constituency, said the party has been in the alliance with BJP since 2016, and will work for the progress and all-round development of the state under the leadership of Sarma. He added that the allies AGP and BPF have backed the selection of Sarma as the leader of the NDA legislature party.
