Shillong: Police on Monday retrieved the body of four-year-old girl from a stone-covered water-filled pit in an under-construction building in the Nongrah Nonglum locality of the city, prompting CM Conrad Sangma to order a probe into the suspected case of murder.
The girl had been reported missing from her residence since 8 am on Sunday. Her family filed a missing complaint with the Rynjah Police Station, following which search operation was launched and the body located on Monday .
Conrad directed police to conduct a thorough probe into the death of the child and ensure justice without delay.
“Deeply anguished to learn about the tragic death of 4-year-old Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai, who went missing from her residence in Nongrah... Her mortal remains were recovered under circumstances suggesting a suspected homicide,” CM wrote on ‘X’.
